Art On Broadway Gallery in Beaverton is pleased to announce an exhibit of contemporary work featuring blown glass by Susette Wilson and paintings by Nikki Dilbeck. The public is invited to celebrate the art and artists at the opening reception Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Complimentary wine and refreshments will be served. Exhibit dates are May 1 through June 1, 2013. “When asked what color is my favorite to work with, I answer, all of them, and often all in one piece!” says Wilson, glass blower. “My current new style ”Blown to Bits” came about after a visit from three young children. Let’s just say that after a few large platters became casualties, I had a laundry basket full of colorful broken shards and, as I hate to throw anything away, I decided to recycle, re-use, roll up three layers of color and blow out this new series. To my amazement each piece becomes its own story with a few quite gentle pieces and several strong bold pieces. I’m happy to say the conversation continues as I explore the boundaries of this new style.” Dilbeck finds inspiration can be generated from all manner of stimuli – a word or phrase, a color or textural element, weather, or a view from the road or an airplane window. The artist explains, “I’m an intuitive painter, so that kernel of beginning may morph into a painting entirely different from its origin. It usually does. My paintings invite the viewer to step closer, to see beyond the face of the painting and into the elements and ideas waiting to be discovered in it. Although I mainly paint with acrylics, I will also use other materials to achieve the result I’m working for in a finished piece. Featured Guest Show: “Interiors”The Guest Artist show for April is titled “Interiors.” Artists who have juried into the Guest Artist Wall at the gallery will show their interpretations of “Interiors”. This show will be up from May 1 through June 29. The reception for this show will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 6-9pm. Come see how the guest artists take this theme and make it their own.

Scandinavian Heritage Foundation FundraiserThe Scandinavian Heritage Foundation is holding a fundraiser, “A Nordic Evening on Broadway,” at Art On Broadway Gallery May 11, 2013, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25 per person and include wine and Scandinavian appetizers. The evening will feature the works of four gallery artists of Nordic ancestry – Sue Jensen, Myla Keller, Gretha Lindwood and Kris Paul – who will be on hand to explain their creative process. Raffle tickets available for purchase.

First Friday Auction at Art On BroadwayExtended hours: May 3, 5 p.m. -9 p.m.
Art On Broadway will participate again this year as Beaverton celebrates its downtown First Fridays. 37 downtown businesses will extend their hours from 5pm to 8pm and offer a variety of special activities- raffles, discounts, demonstrations, book signing, wine tasting, etc. The official First Friday band, Riverside Northwest, will provide entertainment. Art On Broadway will hold its popular AUCTIONS of members’ art pieces again this year. Come be a lucky winner of a beautiful piece of art!
