“STORIES” by Wendy Givens at Art On Broadway Gallery

•Wendy Givens is the featured artist for May at Art On Broadway Gallery. Wendy’s work is all about color and shapes within which she finds subjects with a touch of whimsy that emerge through the painting process. Working  with a limited palette of colors, her color choices help identify her paintings and provide a cohesive body of work.

•This new series of paintings is called “Stories”. Each piece tells of a moment in time and encourages the viewer to imagine the story behind it.

•Wendy shares, “Many of my paintings incorporate texture, which can be built up using molding paste and drizzled tar gel or collaged rice paper. As I establish new colored shapes, turn the canvas, work a bit more, eventually one of the shapes will stand out and I will find the subject for my painting. I continue to develop shapes and colors to unify and complete the composition. It’s a process that I find enjoyable, stirs my creativity and keeps me coming back to my easel.”

*The exhibit opens Wednesday, May 4 and ends Saturday, May 28, 2016. The public is invited to a reception with complimentary refreshments and wine on Saturday, May 14 from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm.

Guest Artist Norm Enzor at Art On Broadway Gallery

•Norm Enzor is the guest artist for May at Art On Broadway Gallery. Norm spent most of his career in the field of business, unrelated to art. During the past two years he decided to venture out into the world of writing and painting. Initially wanting to write and illustrate children’s books, he began volunteering as a storyteller to senior assisted-living and alzheimer’s care centers. This soon led to the completion and publication of his first children’s book. A second children’s book will be available in November, 2016.

•In 2014, Norm enrolled in several local art classes to see if he could further his interests and education in fine arts. He became instantly enamored with the colors and techniques involved with pastel painting and from that introduction, began expanding his experimentation with being self-taught in oil painting.

•Norm shares, “Some of my initial class paintings were in styles and compositions from artists whose techniques I admired. The excitement of learning how to observe nature in this new area of my life brings me a lot of satisfaction. At this period of my art education I am finding that impressionism seems to bring out the beauty of nature and it’s colors as I begin to try my hand at painting.”

*Norm is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and is a US Army Veteran.

*The exhibit opens Wednesday, May 4 and ends Saturday, May 28, 2016. The public is invited to a reception with complimentary refreshments and wine on Saturday, May 14 from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm.
